Devotional on Worship

Posted by: David Carroll

Listen: Worship: October 31, 2004

Last Sunday we had an in-class fellowship so we had a short devotional on the topic of worship. I have been reading Eugene Peterson's book A long obedience in the same direction as a daily devotional for several weeks now. This little message I did that morning is taken from a chapter in his book. By the way, he's the guy who wrote the contemporary language version of the Bible called The Message.

Angels worship Jesus

Listen: Hebrews 1:5-14, October 24, 2004

Evidently, the Hebrew Christians of the first century had some issues with angel worship. The writer of the book of Hebrews goes to great length to prove that Jesus is better than the angels. There is a lot we can learn from studying this passage about how to use scripture to defend a doctrinal point. Bottom line, Jesus is better because He is God and the angels worship Him.

God has spoken by his Son

Listen: Hebrews 1:1-4, October 17, 2004

God has spoken by his Son in these last days. God has only given us two periods of revelation: the first by the prophets and the second by His Son, Jesus Christ. There will not be a third period of revelation. Jesus Christ is the final and complete message from God.

Podcasting Bible Talks

Posted by: David Carroll

It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged and I am a bit embarrassed that I did not follow through on my intentions at the beginning of the year to blog about what I am learning while preparing to teach Sunday School. Actually, since I don’t consider myself a writer, I don’t feel too badly because I have actually enjoyed the break.

I have been reading a lot of blogs this year, both faith related and technical related. One of the things that has become the buzz recently is the idea of an audio blog. It has been named Podcasting. That name comes from the very fine mp3 player called an Ipod (made by Apple). Anyway, I am going to try my hand at this to see how well it is received. Since I teach every week at my church, I’ll post a blog entry once a week or so with a link to an mp3 file of the previous Sunday’s audio. Most of the time, the length of the audio will be about 35-45 minutes.

I started teaching the book of Hebrews a few weeks ago so the next few posts will catch you up to date with the study. I hope you enjoy the Podcast.

PS. If you are really into listening to teaching about the Bible (I loving listening to sermons, and Bible teachers on my mp3 player) you can find hours of previous Bible studies I have recorded at this link.
