How to avoid error

Matthew 22:29 (NKJV)

Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

The Pharisees had tried to trip Jesus up with a question about the resurrection and this was Jesus' reply. Whenever we are confused about something related to God, we should remember this verse. The way to avoid error is to know the Word of God and believe it. More importantly, believing God's word takes an appreciation of His awesome power. So many things just cannot be explained without it.
