Proverbs 15:16-17 (NIV)

Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred.

We have to make decisions in life knowing that what we will gain may cost us in other ways. Take a stressful job that may require you to be away from your family, or mom going to work to be able to afford that nicer home. Proverbs is not a book of laws rather a book of wisdom. Your choices in such matters ought to be made in light of this wisdom.
