Matthew 27:27-31 (NKJV)

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.

When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.

How incredibly ironic that the God of the Universe would be so mocked and humiliated by ignorant, cruel men. That Jesus, the one who spoke the worlds into existence, willingly went through this for our sake is the most incredible act of love ever. The way to view the crucifixion is as a substitution. Jesus was taking upon himself our punishment.

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

People today continue to mock Jesus by using his name as a sacrilege in their profanity. You never hear someone yell out "Buddha" or "Mohammed" when they smash their finger with a hammer. But there is coming a day when the tables will be turned.

Philippians 2:9-11 (NKJV)

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
